Review: Professor Longhair - Rock 'N' Roll Gumbo

New Orleans Blues piano never got better than this. Fess is at his best with hardly realizable rhythm and inimitable playing. Whether it's his original song or it's a cover ("Jambalaya" by Hank Williams', "Mean Old World" by Little Walter etc.) result is all the same, unique and extraordinary, rollicking blues-an-boogie-an-rhomp-an-stomp or call it whatever style, style that set standards of New Orleans piano Blues, the style that became model of playing for younger generations of bluesmen.

Pay attention to his left hand line. This is some kind of magic. Another point to be emphasized is number of riffs in a songs which could be enough for several other compositions.

Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown accompanies The Fess on guitar and fiddle and makes this album just better.

One reviewer said: "If this album does not make you smile and rock, you must be in a coma." Must have album!
