Charlie, Clifton Receive Grammys
NARAS held 56th annual awards ceremony last Sunday. Charlie Musselwhite and Ben Harper are winners in Best Blues Album category for Get Up! Collaboration of legendary harpist and young guitarist already received high acclaim among music critics and professionals. Released in 2013 on Stax Records, album led Billboard Blues Charts for several weeks. Meantime, it should be mentioned that duo competed with plethora of superb artists including James Cotton, Bobby Rush, Joe Bonamassa, Billy Boy Arnold, and James Harman to name a few.
Another happy news for Blues fans is that great Clifton Chenier received Grammy Lifetime Achievement award although this fact was almost overshadowed by the tension over family. Clifton's son, CJ was not able to take statue home since all the rights on estate and royalties are held by nephew of Clifton's wife, Mike Vital. Anyway, King of Zydeco deserves such a honor.
The rest of Blues related news are that Led Zeppelin received Grammy in Best Rock Album category for Celebration Day, and Gary Clark, Jr. also received his Grammy for Please Come Home in Best Traditional R&B Performance.
